Making workplaces safer and ensuring that every worker comes home safe at the end of every workday is one of the highest priorities for MFL affiliated unions.

The MFL invites you to participate in the 2017 MFL Health and Safety Conference – focusing on health and safety from a worker’s perspective.

Whether you’re an experienced health and safety steward, or a new health and safety activist, this conference offers workshops that will enhance your knowledge and skills, and make you a more effective health and safety champion and defender.

MFL Women's Conference - making your union work for you

Event Details: 

The 2017 MFL Women's Conference offers union women the chance to learn and share their perspectives about issues facing working women today. The conference will help union women to develop personal and leadership skills, build connections with other union sisters, and prepare to take our rightful place as leaders in the labour movement. Whether you'e brand new to your union, or an experienced labour activist, this conference will engage you in the ways in which unions can make a difference for you, your family and your community. 

Registration Deadline is: May 12th, 2017, or until registration is full. Space is limited, so please register early. Payment must accompany registration in order to hold your spot.

Low interest rates, volatile markets, plummeting private sector pension coverage and pressure on plan funding are just a few of the challenges facing pension plans to-day. The Manitoba Pension Forum will bring together trade union representatives, trustees, pension administrators and industry leaders to examine current and emerging trends, issues and challenges facing occupational pension funds in Manitoba. The program will feature keynotes, panels and breakout sessions.

Our workplaces play an important role in maintaining positive mental health, but they can also be a source of stress and irritation, contributing to mental health problems and illness. No workplace is immune from these risks, and unions have led the charge to expand the definition of occupational health & safety beyond just the physical.

This year’s MFL Health & Safety Conference will highlight the importance of psychological health in overall occupational health and safety strategies, and feature special guest speakers from the Mental Health Commission of Canada on the subject of best practices for psychological health and safety in the workplace.

International Women's Day Breakfast

The CLC / MFL / WLC are co-hosting an International Women's Day breakfast at the Hotel Fort Garry on March 8, 2016, from 7:30 am - 9:00 am.

This year's event will include a special celebration of the 100 year anniversary of many women (though not all) becoming eligible to vote and hold political office in Manitoba.

Special guest speakers include: Barb Byers (Canadian Labour Congress Secretary - Treasurer), Jenny Gerbasi (Winnipeg CIty Councillor) and  Kelly-Ann Stevenson (Council of Women Winnipeg President).
