100th Anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike

Winnipeg General Strike Centennial Celebrations Presented by Manitoba's Unions

2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike.

Manitoba's labour movement will be marking this important anniversary with a number of community events. For a schedule of Winnipeg General Strike related events, click here

On May 11, Manitoba's Unions will be hosting the 1919 Social, Presented by Myers LLP at the Ukrainian Labour Temple (we regret that this venue is not accessible). Please Note that the 1919 Social is SOLD OUT. You can still buy tickets for the social auction though, and you don't have to be there to win. Click here for more information on tickets and prizes.

On May 15, Manitoba's Unions will be hosting the Winnipeg General Strike Centennial Gala Dinner, presented by Manitoba Building Trades. It will mark 100 years to the day that the Strike began. Download the ticket order form here

On May 25, Manitoba's Unions will celebrate will the Solidarity Forever Parade, presented by UFCW 832. The parade will run from the Market and Lily in the Exchange District to Memorial Park in front of the Manitoba Legislature. For those interested in submitting a float or walking group, you can download the rules and registration form here. You will also need the waiver form, which you can download here

Also on May 25, right after the parade, Manitoba's Unions will be hosting the Solidarity Forever Community Concert, sponsored by CUPE Manitoba, at Memorial Park. Free to all. The lineup features Bruce Steele (Host), Sierra Noble, James Keelaghan, David Rovics, Heather Bishop, Maria Dunn with Shannon Johnson, Red Moon Road, Nathan Rogers, Joe Jencks. On June 8, Manitoba's Unions will be hosting the Rise Up 100: Songs for the Next Century Concert, sponsored by MGEU, at Old Market Square. Free to all. The lineup features Ani DiFranco, Bruce Cockburn, John K Samson, Leonard Sumner, Sweet Alibi, and Two Crows for Comfort. Programming by Winnipeg Folk Festival. Download the concert poster here

1919 Winnipeg General Strike Centenary Conference

The Winnipeg General Strike Centenary Building a Better World Conference will be held at the University of Winnipeg from May 8 - 11. For more information, including registration, click here.
