Hundreds of Canadian Union of Postal Workers members and their supporters rallied in front of the Manitoba Legislature on Saturday January 25, 2014 in high spirits, in spite of the frigid temperatures.
They were there to tell Canada Post and the Harper Conservatives that they are wrong to cut home delivery service to 5 million households across Canada and to cut 8000 Canada Post employees.
On hand to support the rally were Manitoba Minister Responsible for Seniors Sharon Blady, NDP MP Pat Martin, former NDP MP and former Government of Manitoba Cabinet Minister Bill Blaikie, CUPW Representative George Floresco and CLC Executive Vice-President Barb Byers.
The move by Canada Post to cut services and jobs and to increase the cost of postage is feared by many to be the prelude to the complete privatization of postal services.
