Manitoba Company fined $60,050 for Serious Workplace Injury

July 19, 2012

Manitoba’s Labour Department announced yesterday that a Manitoba employer has been fined $60,050 for a workplace injury that left a 44 year old man with three severed fingers.

On March 10, 2010, a worker at Cadorath Plating Co. Ltd. in Winnipeg lost three fingers from his left hand when a punch press machine top plate activated and pressed down over his fingers. The company failed to ensure the punch press had safeguards installed to prevent workers from having contact with hazardous points of the machine.

In announcing the fine, the Province reminded employers “that it is their role to ensure workplaces are safe and employees receive proper training.”
