Winnipeg – Health Care Staff at Maples Personal Care Home will be holding information
pickets from Sunday, July 14th to Wednesday, July 17th from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.
On Friday, June 28th, 94% of the employees at the home voted in favour of a strike mandate. The 130 CUPE Local 2719 members, who include health care aides, dietary aides and kitchen staff, want wage parity with other facilities.
“Not only are they not staffed as well as other long term care facilities, they are being paid less to work more. It has to end” said Paula Raposo, CUPE National Representative. “It is important that the public know what is happening.”
On July 18th, the parties will meet with a Conciliation Officer to work towards addressing these important issues. The tentative strike date is set for July 22nd.
Maples Personal Care Home is located at 500 Mandalay Drive, Winnipeg.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees is Canada’s largest union and represents more than 25,000 workers in Manitoba.
