MFL Special Projects Coordinator Hired

Brother Jean-Guy Bourgeois has been selected to be the new Manitoba Federation of Labour Special Projects Coordinator. Bourgeois brings strong credentials to the MFL that will result in strong support services for the MFL Executive Council and all affiliated unions. These credentials include:

  • Union activism in Ontario for both CUPE and CEP,
  • Research for the Ontario Federation of Labour,
  • Nearly two decades of advocacy and research for progressive organizations and government,
  • Public policy analysis,
  • Experience dealing pensions, workers’ compensation, workplace safety
  • and health, and community development for First Nations’ communities,
  • Alternative Media communications,
  • Main stream media communications.

Bourgeois comes to the MFL from the Government of Manitoba where he prepared strategies for the Premier and cabinet on major public policy issues, acted as senior advisor to the Minister of Health and liaising with health care unions. As an assistant to Federal NDP Trade Critic Bill Blaikie he organized the Federal Caucus’ opposition campaign against the World Trade Organization.

There were many fine applicants for the job now filled by Brother Bourgeois and the selection process involved a lot of difficult deliberations. Bourgeois will assume his new responsibilities in early September.
