MFL wins free menstrual products in the workplace

March 9, 2026

We’re thrilled to share with you that the MFL Women’s Committee’s campaign for free menstrual products at work has achieved success – the Kinew Government just announced that they are changing the Workplace Safety & Health Act to require employers to provide free menstrual products in workplace washrooms, just like they’re already required to do with other necessary washroom supplies, like toilet paper. This is an important win for gender equity at work, and for workplace health and safety.

Thank you to all the unions and activists who participated in our postcard campaign and helped raise awareness of the need to make this change. Manitoba is the first province requiring free menstrual products at work, and we hope the rest of the country will follow suit in fast order.

For more information about why this is important, you can read MFL Executive Director Anna Rothney’s Winnipeg Free Press op-ed on the subject.
