On September 8, UFCW Local 832 members working for Superstore and Extra Foods locations across Manitoba had a chance to hear what 17 days of bargaining produced. Unhappy with the process to-date, the members turned down the company’s offer and gave the union bargaining committee a 98.3 per cent strike mandate to take back to the table for the final five days of bargaining set to resume on Saturday, September 21.
“Its disappointing that Loblaw who just recently purchased Shoppers Drug Mart stores for $12.4-Billon and post Billons in sales won’t offer their members fair wages and respectful working conditions,” said UFCW Local 832 President Jeff Traeger.
UFCW Local 832 represents over 3000 Loblaw employees at locations across the province. Local 832 is Manitoba’s largest private sector union representing over 15,000 members in the province.
